Who May Enter
Only fully-paid members of the Barrie Photo Club (BPC) may enter a club competition.
Cost
Your membership dues fully cover the cost of entering a competition.
Image Ownership and Rights
By entering an image, you warrant that you are the rightful owner and exclusive author of the image. You grant to the Barrie Photo Club the non-exclusive right to display the image on the club’s website and on any other media to promote the club and as required for competitions. You retain ownership of the image and all rights to its’ subsequent use.
Ineligible Subject Matter
The following are not eligible in any category:
A. Any image of a nude or semi-nude subject.
B. Any depiction of violence, blood or an illegal act.
C. Any image that is pornographic, inflammatory, or offensive.
Judging
Images will be judged for overall impact, composition, technical excellence, originality, artistic merit and nature story. Images will be scored out of 10 by each of 3 judges and may receive constructive comments on how they can be improved.
The images from all Skill Levels will be judged together in each competition Category.
How to Submit Your Images
Click on the Competitions tab on the Home Page of the Barrie Photo Club website (redirects to the Competitions Portal) or the Competitions Portal directly, and follow the instructions to upload your images.
Skill Levels
The Barrie Photo Club has three Skill Levels for Competitions:
- Novice Division
- Intermediate Division
- Advanced Division.
Refer to your profile (menu option) to see your Member Skill Levels.
Awards
Provided that there are sufficient entries, makers of the most highly rated images in each Skill Level will receive an Award Certificate. Other entrants may receive an Honourable Mention certificate. There are no cash prizes or other monetary awards.
General Rules for All Categories
1) The 3 unique categories for each club competition.
2) A Member may submit up to 4 images in total, with a maximum of 2 in any single category. The member may select 2 images to receive comments.
3) All images must originate in any type of camera.
4) The original image and all digital post-processing must be the work of the entrant. Skies, backgrounds or other elements that have been downloaded from the internet may not be used.
5) Refer to the AI Guidelines to explain how AI can and can not be used in competitions.
6) An image may not be the same as, or substantially similar to, another image entered by the same maker in a previous BPC competition, or in a different category in this competition.
7) Monochrome images are acceptable in all categories.
8) The contents of an image or its’ title must not identify the maker. Watermarks are not permitted.
9) A key-line border, such as a white 1 or 2 pixel wide line around the perimeter of an image, is permitted in any category to identify the edges of an image that has a very dark or black background.
10) Submitted image files must be: a) JPEG format; b) sRGB colour space; c) Not more than 3 MB in size; d) Re-sized to a maximum width of 1920 pixels and a maximum height of 1080 pixels, as viewed on a computer monitor.
Image File Notes:
1) One of the resized dimensions will usually be less than the maximum permitted, which is fine.
2) Although smaller sizes are permitted, for best results an image should be as close as possible to the maximums, without exceeding them.
